At first some
customers started using the smaller diameters of our heavy duty 5 foot long
fenders on the sides of their canoes and hard tenders to aid in stablity
and make them soft sided against larger hulls. Then we started making
them custom lengths out of our fabric used for standard fenders allowing
colors and a seam for attachment.
For stability
on their Heritage line of sailing/rowing craft, we make Little River Marine inflatable
sponsons which incorporate a luff tape similar to sails. The luff tape runs
in a groove along the underside of the gunwale making them easy to install
with nice continuous contact. Length is as long as 16 feet with a 4.5" diameter.
We've also made
smaller diameter inflatable tubes for bimini supports as long as 12'. Since
the coverings are reinforced material they can withstand higher pressures
becoming quite rigid depending on diameter and length. The tubes can be
incorporated into the bimini and are easily deflated for storage compared
to metal tubing.
If your interested
in sponsons or tubes, we can quote on diameter and lengths and have some
flexibility in color. Tubes are usually provided with a flap of material
along their length to use for attachment. Flaps can be screwed through or
grommets installed at intervals as lashing points. The luff tape is another
option replacing the flap. Aluminum and plastic grooves are available to
accept the tape. If necessary mulitple flaps are also possible.
